Deep Democracy in Education

What teachers model, determines to a large extent how members of the next generation will treat themselves, each other, and the environment.

"Everyone has a voice at Wulagi (school). Four years of hearing everyone's views and making decisions together has helped our wellbeing, creative genius and responsibility." Susan Kilgour: Principal: Wulagi Primary School

Born out of South Africa’s transformation from Apartheid to Democracy, the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy is a set of tools that enables all voices to be heard as it seeks the wisdom of all in decision making and when resolving tension and conflict that results in transformational change.

At Wulagi, Deep Democracy is a valuable life skill that assists with decision making, meaningful dialog, cooperation, leadership and conflict resolution.

"The Lewis Method of Deep Democracy allows students to take ownership & control their behaviour" - Susan Kilgour: Principal: Wulagi Primary School
